GOLF, HORSES & OTHER THINGS |
The paintings on these pages bring back vivid memories to Coheleach. The year was 1962 and the young artists was determined to build up his portfolio of wildlife subjects - to reveal a diverse hand capable of rendering fish as well as elephants and eagles.
Coheleach lived on Long Island at the time. Using a rented rowboat and sandworms for bait, he would fish through the night,
paint his catch in the morning, nap for few hours in the afternoon, eat the fish for supper, then head out to catch another. "I kept up that crazy round-the-clock schedule for about four
weeks. This particular painting is actually based on some 30 striped bass I caught over that period."
