Anyone who has ever owned a bird feeder can relate to this
scene. It is one of those subdued winter afternoons; you can sense the cold by the birds' fluffed-out feathers and the snow-
covered branches. The blue jays have just eaten and now they are
simply waiting to get hungry again.
